Spiceworks Community Digest: Whither the whiteboard?
With remote and hybrid work continuing to take over, collaboration has changed dramatically. We’ve traded conference rooms for video calls and physical sticky notes for digital whiteboards. But as we’ve integrated these new tools into our daily lives, are we missing something from the old way of doing things?
That’s the question at the heart of a great discussion in the Spiceworks Community, titled “Do you miss whiteboarding?”
Prior to the global pandemic, whiteboarding was a common practice in IT. These brainstorms, planning, and discussion periods often ended with a real sense of accomplishment. However, with more IT professionals working remotely, have we lost some of the creative, in-person sessions that help a team quickly visualize and solve problems?
Responses in the community are firmly split. On one side, many still value the tangible, in-person collaboration that whiteboards provide with a few members of the Spiceworks Community still using them daily. However, downsides of physical whiteboards are a real and sometimes messy struggle for many IT pros. Whiteboards can be hard to decipher, and they’re also not really archivable. Fortunately, the art of whiteboarding isn’t entirely lost with many of our community members still doing it in some form.
The discussion about whiteboarding has brought up great points about how we work and the importance of finding the right balance between tools and personal preferences. Whether you’re a fan of the physical board or a digital convert, it’s clear that effective collaboration remains a top priority for IT pros everywhere.
We’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s keep the conversation going:
- What’s your team’s preferred method for brainstorming and collaboration? Physical whiteboards, digital tools, or a hybrid approach?
- What digital collaboration tools do you use, and what features do you find most essential for your work?
- What do you think is the biggest challenge facing IT teams when it comes to collaborating in a remote or hybrid environment?
