Spiceworks Community Digest: Better living through automation
We all have that one IT task that’s a recurring pain point, the kind of repetitive chore that eats up time you could be spending on more important projects. The kind of thing that makes you think, “there has to be a better way.”
For IT professionals, automation isn’t just a buzzword, it can be a game changer, leading to a more efficient, less stressful day. While some of us have successfully automated everything from software deployments to password resets, there are always those manual chores that linger. Many IT professionals have a dream of a fully automated workflow, which is what drives them to learn scripting, build new processes, and seek out new tools.
So, what’s that one IT task that keeps you dreaming of a magic button? This is the center of a current discussion happening on the Spiceworks Community. The community had a lot to say about the most wanted automation jobs. Many members focused on the mundane, repetitive tasks that fill up their days. Heidette wished they could automate “checking physical connections, especially crawling around under desks,” while The Data Master wished they could automate “receiving\entering MFA codes.”
The community also expressed a clear desire to automate the constant cycle of fixing things that should just work. DarkBrewer brought up the all-too-common stress of “Certificate renewals,” which are easy to forget. And a few members vented about the mysterious life of printers, with jeffbrubaker wishing they could automate “Fixing network printers that mysteriously changed from an IP address to WSD!”
This conversation is a fun reminder of the universal challenges that IT professionals face. While we’re a community of problem-solvers, some problems just can’t be automated away (at least not yet!). Head over to the Spiceworks Community to read the full discussion and share the one task you’d love to automate.
